Notes and comments
Creative writing is a useful exercise for children. It fosters their imagination and creativity and teaches them how to express their thoughts on paper. The key is not to tell them what to write, but to help them, with questions and careful suggestions, to discover it for themselves.
Writing lyrics in primary school is a great way to express yourself. Lyrics can be written in the form of poetry or song. Knowing how to use words and different parts of speech to convey your thoughts and emotions is important in writing lyrics.
The short, fun nature of some poems makes them perfect for the hesitant beginning writer. It’s good tostart with something simple such as one-verse, simple ABAB pattern rhymes where every other line ends with a rhyming word. Starting is often the most difficult part of the writing process for elementary school students. Allowing them to imitate a particular poem, a song or a passage from a story will get them going. A teacher should write an example with the students on the board, chart or overhead so they have a model or frame of reference. Using fun poems by writers, music, songs sparks interest.
Coming up with good creative writing lesson plans for elementary school students can be an absolute joy. Elementary school creative writing classes allow you as the teacher to harness the creativity of young minds and use it to inspire a lifelong passion for learning.
There are probably hundreds of creative writing lesson plans we can start with. The important thing is that we choose one that will show our elementary school students that writing can be a lot of fun.
Developing effective writing skills is a crucial part of education in the primary grades. Unfortunately, many young children do not like writing. But engaging, interactive writing activities encourage and inspire children to write by creating.
Some photos are added.
